Greetings all! I've started two blogs!
- One is primarily for discussing my current research, which is tied to a chapter in an upcoming book entitled The Routledge Handbook of Anthropology and Climate Change. Of course, when asked to contribute a chapter, I volunteered to cover Collapse. So as I sort out that project and review the evidence for my case, which is about survival, I want to write through some of my ideas and this will be the place. I'm sure there will also be notes about many other timely topics along the way:
The Second One is allegedly written by Dr. Annie Farmer, my main protagonist. This is the beginning of the blog she talked about in my novel, the first part about figuring out how they got here, something many of us struggle with today:
Annie's first set of blogs "101. Beginnings" is already posted. I have another set ready to post called "102. Being Human" which discusses some of our human behaviors and social dynamics that got us to this point in history, and will help us get out of this spot.
After I've finished posting these two first sets of blogs, I'll work on finalizing the next three sets which are entitled: 103. Great Collapse, 104. The Big Sort, and 105. Pods, Guilds, And All The Rest, which together are intended to help my readers to better comprehend and visualize our near future (ca. 2030) as viewed from Annie Farmer's perspective. These blogs are the stuff I had to write through while creating my novel, By 2030: A Survival Story, just as I am writing my own blog to help me through my chapter.
Once the latter three blogs sets are finished I'll move on to Annie's (and my) ethnobotanical research and ideas about prepping. I hope you agree that we should ALL be prepping, to a degree, right now for a very turbulent future, both in terms of social and climate dynamics.
Full disclosure, I won't have time to work on these blogs again until after August (when my draft chapter is due). So for now in brief, I STRONGLY URGE you to store up about 2 weeks of water, and all that basic emergency stuff like flashlights and candles, and think about portable food in case you lose power. Cans of beans got many a person through back in the day. I've recently discovered "pocket tamales" which are individually wrapped in a plastic/metal pouch so you could put them in the sun for a bit and have them hot, but you do you! I'll stop before I get carried away, but it is worth saying that we're in for some turbulent times later this year. If you're not already knee deep in floods or keeping an eye on your "Watch Duty" app for wildfires near you, count your blessings and Props.
Sidebar: I've numbered Annie's blogs so you can read them in order. I've futzed around with the dates so they appear in the proper chronological order that Annie wrote them, which is not easy on a blog. I'm just learning this blogging platform, so I'll do some reformatting along the way. I suspect most of these authoritative people who push out a lot of posts either have support staff who understand this platform better than I, or they're not too worried about what they say. I've see evidence of both strategies.
- Both blogs are intended to promote dialog, respectful and constructive please! Comments are permitted for subscribers only, just to encourage you to come back soon.
- Both blogs are currently free. I think $5/month is crazy for a single person's blog, don't you? Perhaps in time I may ask for $1, because it definitely takes time to put these together, and we still live in a Capitalist society, last I checked.
I look forward to our conversations.
